Ever heard of the saying – ‘A healthy mind dwells in a healthy body’. While being fit is essential, it is also fashionable to pursue a fitness regime. That is the new mantra. Women have become even more conscious about their looks, their figure and overall personality. Not just externally, but they also realize the importance of being beautiful inside-out. That is the very reason why you see more women opting for yoga and meditation. Women also go for detoxification that heals them from within, while making them peaceful inside and stronger outside.

Hitting the gym however is the most common fitness practice. While many opt for no cost fitness like running, that cannot be an option during cold weathers. Going to gym works best for most women. The gym gears, the clothing, the gadgets, are all motivators other than the fact that they are working towards a stronger body. Let’s take a look at the fitness essentials that every women should possess. Here is a list of ‘must haves’ along with some luxury nice to have items that should be part of every women’s gym bag.

Before you pack your gym bag, you need to have one. Go for one that makes most sense for you. Something with few small pockets for smaller essentials, a separate compartment for sweaty clothes/shoes, and of course one with adjustable strap. Most importantly look for gym bags that are washable.

Workout Top:

A snug fit t-shirt with a material that keeps you cool, after a hard cardio. Make sure you keep an additional shirt just in case you plan to go for yoga or Pilates after your gym.

Bottoms or Shorts:

Exercise bottoms or shorts with an inbuilt underwear works well for gym routine. Have a couple of them. Make sure they fit right and you feel comfortable in them.

Sports Bra:

It is very important to give strong support to your upper body while working out. Make sure you wear a nice sports bra for that extra support during your workout routine.


If swimming is your style of burning calories, you need some really nice fitting swimwear with a cover up as required. If you are someone one who prefers goggles, make sure you carry that too.

Accessories / Bands:

If you would like to go for a sporty look, you may want to have some of the accessories. Style in a sports hat, hair band, wrist band or headband based on your preference.


A well branded athletic footwear with good cushioning for support is essential when you are carrying out your fitness regime. Of course do not forget to pack ankle length socks to go with your gym shoes.

Water Bottle:

Staying well hydrated is equally important as eating healthy. Carry a nice 20-24 fl oz bottle for your workout sessions. Fill it up and drink it during your gym. The more intense the workout, the more important it is to stay hydrated.

iPod / MP3 Player:

Listening to music while exercising seems like a pattern that most carry out. If you are one of those, invest in a good piece of gadget to stay charged up while remaining fit.

Padlock or Combo Lock:

Most gyms offer lockers for day use that you can use with you own locks. Go for a digital lock. That way you do not have to carry the key in the gym area.

Energy Bars / Energy Food:

Post-workout calories are important as well. Keeping a couple of energy bars keeps you away from falling for easily available junk right after your hard workout session. Keep energy bars in your gym bag handy.

Personal Hygiene Items:

You cannot do without these at all. While you may add or remove some, but below is a quick checklist of personal hygiene that you should consider taking to the gym. The list can include:

  • deodorant
  • comb or brush
  • lotion
  • shampoo
  • shower sandals
  • makeup
  • hand sanitizer
  • tampons
  • extra undies
  • headband or extra hair band
  • spare contact lenses and solution

ID or Gym Membership Card:

Well do not forget your gym member id. The best way to remember is to clip it in your gym bag or in your car keys.

Dirty Clothing Bag:

Sweaty post-workout clothes can be a breeding ground for bacteria. Keep the wet clothes away in a bag in a separate compartment until they find their way to the washer.
