Before you pack your gym bag, you need to have one. Go for one that makes most sense for you. Something with few small pockets for smaller essentials, a separate compartment for sweaty clothes/shoes, and of course one with adjustable strap. Most importantly look for gym bags that are washable.
A snug fit t-shirt with a material that keeps you cool, after a hard cardio. Make sure you keep an additional shirt just in case you plan to go for yoga or Pilates after your gym.
Bottoms or Shorts:

Listening to music while exercising seems like a pattern that most carry out. If you are one of those, invest in a good piece of gadget to stay charged up while remaining fit.
Padlock or Combo Lock:
Most gyms offer lockers for day use that you can use with you own locks. Go for a digital lock. That way you do not have to carry the key in the gym area.
Energy Bars / Energy Food:
Post-workout calories are important as well. Keeping a couple of energy bars keeps you away from falling for easily available junk right after your hard workout session. Keep energy bars in your gym bag handy.
Personal Hygiene Items:
